University of Chicago
Larissa Brewer-Garcia, Ph.D.
2024-25 Role: Special Advisor to the Vice Provost for Diversity and Inclusion
Larissa Brewer-Garcia has chosen to review the development and current status of the Provost Postdoctoral Fellowship program as a means of assessing its impact on diversifying the faculty at UChicago. She will also review marketing and communications strategies designed to promote departmental and divisional participation in the Provost Postdoctoral Fellowship program for enhancing the program’s uptake across the university’s academic units. In addition, she will help compose an updated set of recommendations for conducting campus visit interviews to improve all faculty hiring across the university. Finally, Brewer-Garcia will serve as a point of contact for current and former Ivy+ FAN Institute Fellows seeking to promote and enhance departmental and cross divisional engagement diversity + inclusion.
As a result of her collaborative work, the University hopes to enhance university-wide recognition of the Provost Postdoctoral Program; increase the number of academic departments and divisions annually seeking to appoint Provost Postdoctoral Fellows; design and disseminate a list of best practices for departments for more inclusive and successful faculty recruitment through improved campus visits; and develop an ongoing forum for current and former FAN Institute Fellows from the University of Chicago.
